Galactic Core (2009)
This is a view looking towards the centre of a galaxy such as the Milky Way. A vast
pancake of gas and dust, here seen edge-on, is thought to lurk there, orbiting a
supermassive black hole. The density of stars in this region is much, much higher
than in the neighbourhood of the Sun. A supernova is seen exploding bottom left.
