Outer Rim (2002)  This image appeared in an issue of the American magazine Astronomy, to illustrate an article I wrote. It shows a pair of planets far from the Galactic core — on the so-called outer rim. There are reasons to believe that terrestrial planets here will be small and lack atmospheres, and thus be devoid of life. From here you can see the Milky Way edge on. The dark band across the middle is the galaxy's dust cargo.
