Large-Scale Structure (2006)  The above is a schematic showing the Universe on the largest possible scale. Each red dot is not just a galaxy, but an entire cluster of them, often containing thousands of individual members. They are strung out to form long filamentary structures. The regions in between (blue), which are comparatively empty, are called, appropriately enough, voids.
