Asteroid King (2002)
This is my impression of the largest asteroid, Ceres, and the first to be discovered,
in 1801. Nobody has ever seen Ceres up close, but astronomers know that it is
spherical (diameter about 1000 km) because of its mass. So I had free reign here to
invent anything I wanted. Note that I added the extra asteroids to the right merely
for artistic reasons. Despite what you see in the movies, the asteroid belt is
actually extremely thin. If you lived on an asteroid in the main belt, such as Ceres,
you would likely not see another one in close up in your lifetime. In 2006, Ceres was
given a new title: it is now considered a dwarf planet.
