Planets and Stars Compared (2012)
This animation compares the sizes of all the planets in the Solar System, starting
with the smallest, Mercury, and increasing in size up until Jupiter. It then goes on
comparing the Sun to other, larger stars. The concentric circles which appear towards
the end of the clip indicate the orbits of the planets Mercury to Uranus on the same
scale. As you can see, the largest known star, VY Canis Majoris, if placed at the
centre of our Solar System, would swallow all of the planets out to and including
Saturn!
