The formation of the Solar System
Gas Planet Accretion (2000)  This shows a gas giant planet, right, forming around the growing Sun, left, in the so-called solar nebula which surrounded the Sun as it formed. The gas planet is so massive that it is sucking in material from either side of a gap (dark) that it has gravitationally cleared for itself. In this manner, the planet will gorge itself until it reaches a mass dozens or even hundreds of times more massive than Earth.
