Solar Flare (2007)  Solar flares are powerful explosions that occur in the atmosphere of the Sun, more specifically in the parts known as the corona and the chromosphere. When they erupt, they heat the Sun's plasma to tens of million of degrees Celsius, in the process accelerating atmospheric particles (electrons, protons and other particles) to speeds approaching that of light.
