Beyond Magritte's Door (1999)
I based this painting closely on La Réponse Imprevue ('The Unexpected
Answer') by the Belgian surrealist — a title that means, as far as I can tell, and
as with most of Magritte's titles, absolutely nothing whatsoever. In his picture the
hole in the door is plain black. I made it a gateway to a small blue-green planet
called Earth.
