L ocated some 15 light-years away in the constellation of Aquarius, Gliese 876 is a red dwarf star with a planetary system around it. All of the four known planets, which are giants, orbit the central star very closely, at a distance inside or comparable to the orbit of Mercury around our Sun. In this cover image for Sky & Telescope, I show the innermost planet passing close to the star, as seen from the more distant one.
