Gliese 876 (2005)

Gliese 876 is a star with a planetary system around it, one of well over a hundred now known. Both of the two known planets, which are giants, orbit the central star very closely, at a distance well inside the orbit of Mercury around our Sun. In this cover image for Sky & Telescope I show the innermost planet passing close to the star, as seen from the more distant one.
