4. What is your background and training?
I have a degree in astronomy from University College London (UCL), and a Ph.D. in astrophysics from the Mullard Space Science Laboratory, which is a department of UCL but is not in London. After I finished my Ph.D. I did three years of research at Sussex University, in the UK, specialising in close binary stars called cataclysmic binaries (see Stars II for images). But by the time I had reached the end of my contract, it had become clear that professional astronomy was not for me, and I decided on a career change. I became a writer and illustrator. I am essentially self-trained in art and writing. Previous | Index | Next
