"No warning" is exactly what the dinosaurs would have been given when a massive comet, perhaps 7 miles across, plunged into the Yucatán Peninsula, present-day Mexico, some 65,000,000 years ago. This comet, moving at perhaps 40 miles per second, would have cleared the Earth's atmosphere in mere seconds. The nearest dinosaurs would probably have felt the blast wave and been scattered to the winds as ashes before hearing a thing.
