About "Jet from Massive Galaxy"
Astronomers from the University of Arizona commissioned me to create this illustration depicting a tidal disruption event (TDE) witnessed in a distant, massive galaxy. A TDE is the name given to the destruction or distortion of a star as it passes close to a black hole. In this case, the star was completely destroyed, and resulted in the formation of a powerful gamma-ray burst (GRB) — a double-jet of gamma radiation from the source of the TDE. GRBs are the most energetic events in the entire universe.Details
