This illustration depicts Euclid, the near-infrared space telescope from Europe. Euclid is a part of the European Space Agency's (ESA) Cosmic Vision programme, and was launched in July 2023. It will use optical and infrared instruments to map the geometry of dark matter in the universe. Dark matter is a hypothesised type of matter that would account for gravitational forces in the universe that have no apparent origin.
